What Glance Does
Glance is a browser extension that provides AI-powered, crowd-sourced assessments of YouTube channels. It detects which YouTube channels you visit, lets you request assessments, and displays community-generated insights about channels.
Information We Collect
- Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and display name from Google OAuth. This is used solely for authentication.
- YouTube channel visits. The extension records which YouTube channels you visit (channel ID, name, handle, and avatar URL) in your browser's local storage. This data stays on your device unless you vote on or request an assessment of a channel, at which point the channel's metadata (ID, name, handle, avatar) is stored on our servers so it can be shared with other users.
- Votes and assessments. When you vote for or request an assessment of a channel, we store the channel ID and your user ID on our servers to track vote counts and deliver assessments.
- Feed curation. If you enable feed curation, the extension sends channel IDs visible in your YouTube feed to our server to check their assessment verdicts. No video IDs, titles, or viewing behavior are sent — only the channel IDs needed to determine which channels to filter.
- Channel search queries. If you use the channel search feature, your search text is sent to our server to return matching results.
- YouTube account access (optional). If you connect your YouTube account for the unsubscribe feature, we request permission to manage your subscriptions. The OAuth token is stored locally in your browser and is never sent to our servers. We only use it to unsubscribe from channels you explicitly choose to remove.
- Credit transactions. If you purchase credits, we store transaction records (amount, timestamp) linked to your user ID. Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe; we do not store your payment card details.
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not collect your YouTube watch history, video viewing behavior, or video IDs.
- We do not collect data from any website other than youtube.com.
- We do not use any analytics, telemetry, or error-tracking services.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
How We Use Your Information
- To authenticate your account and manage your credits balance.
- To record and tally votes for channel assessments.
- To generate and display AI-powered channel assessments that are shared with all users.
- To store channel metadata (name, avatar) so it can be reused across users without repeated API calls.
- To check channel verdicts for feed curation when the feature is enabled.
Data Storage and Security
Server-side data is stored in Supabase (hosted on AWS). All communication between the extension and our servers uses HTTPS. Row-level security policies restrict data access to authorized users. Browsing history is stored locally in your browser and is cleared when you sign out.
Third-Party Services
Your Rights
- You can view your locally stored channel visit history in the extension popup.
- Signing out clears your local browsing catalog.
- You can uninstall the extension at any time to remove all local data.
- To request deletion of your server-side account data, contact us at the email below.
Children's Privacy
Glance is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be noted with a revised effective date at the top of this page.
